In the first six months of this year, insurance customers in Brazil received BRL 112.6 billion in indemnities, benefits, redemptions and sweepstakes — an amount 25.3% higher than the same period in 2021. The products that most contributed to this advance were VGBL, whose benefits and redemptions increased by 10.5 billion reais, rural insurance with payments that exceeded the amounts paid last year by 5.9 billion reais, and auto insurance, with another 4.8 billion reais in payments. The data are from the National Insurance Confederation, CNseg, and exclude health insurance and the mandatory DPVAT.
In the first half of 2022, the VGBL totaled BRL 54.2 billion in redemptions and benefits, an increase of 24% and auto insurance paid BRL 14.9 billion, up by more than 47%. “Therefore, the behavior observed in recent months, of a more vigorous advance in indemnities than in revenues, is maintained, which is to some extent expected when we remember that in the first months of 2021 we still lived in an environment with some restrictions on income. activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic and adverse weather conditions this year, mainly in the southern region of the country,” says CNseg President Dyogo Oliveira.
